Still Alive

Regardless of how often I have posted lately, we are still alive out here. We officially have everything unpacked and have even started making improvements to the house - inside and out. The biggest task still in front of us to hang things. As "un-daunting" as that may seem, it has somehow escaped us for the last three weeks. After that, it'll be little things here and there and we may still throw in the occasional big task. Until then, we're ready for visitors, so come on out!

We also helped Ben and Beth move in to their new house today. Luckily, the moving should be done for a while...

Softball is going pretty well. Our coed team is 2-1 (we lost last week, but I wasn't there so blame Laura!). I think we're pretty good and it's not that everyone else is just that bad. Lots more games to go, however.

Football season is upon us and I've started into year 2 of my officiating career. I'm part of a new crew this year and I'm now actually with someone who is secure enough to train me. It's SO nice working with people who are willing to help and they do it in such a way that it makes me want to learn more. I have no qualms about doing a varsity game, but chances are that they'll still make me wait until at least my third year until that comes about. The DFOA (Denver Football Official's Association) has an unofficial rule (in other words, they adhere to it but there is nothing forcing them to) that officials will not work a varsity game until at least their third year. In may cases I think that is a good thing because a LOT of new officials are REALLY bad. However, I think I'm a little ahead of the curve, but maybe I'm just optimistic/ambitious.

I've started back up with my flag football team again. Our first game was last week but I had to miss it f0r a flag football tourney. We are playing in the competitive league this year so I'm hoping there will be some decent teams and it'll be a good challenge. Just because it's called "flag football", don't underestimate it. It's essentially football without pads or tackling. I literally hit the guys across from me almost as hard as I would with pads on. So, in most cases, that makes it pretty fun. Next game is tomorrow and hopefully we win this league again (as we did last year!).

Not much else to report. Will probably go spend more money on the house tonight and dread that first payment that is coming up next week. Until then, hope everyone reading this is well and I'll do my best to keep things updated more often.

OH, almost forgot...I'm going back to school! I found a distance learning program for "working professionals" at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Basically, they hold all the classes on campus and them stream them over the internet so I can do everything from here. When all is said and done, I'll have my Masters in Engineering Management - it was hard to pass up, especially since LM is paying for it! First class is Wednesday, so hopefully it goes well.

1 for 1

We had our first coed softball game tonight and started the season off with a bang, winning 18-8. The news that is even better is that we only had three outfielders (normally play with 4 in slow pitch) and still won by a substantial margin. So, maybe we'll be alright after all! Oh, and she'll never admit it, but Laura hit the only home run of the game! Gooooo wee one!
